Find Plenty Of Vacation Possibilities In The Bahamas

by Christine OKelly

How do you describe the perfect vacation? Tropical weather, warm ocean waters, white sand beaches, palm trees swaying in the breeze, and plenty of attractions and activities? How about resort accommodations, scuba diving, snorkeling, sunset cruises, Calypso music, deep-sea fishing, and an up-close encounter with dolphins? If this sounds like the perfect vacation to you, you can find it all in the commonwealth.

Located in the Atlantic, just northwest of Cuba and southeast of Florida, the official language is English and American currency is equal to Bahamian currency so you don't have to worry about exchanging money. Originally settled by the Taino people in the seventh century, these islands continue their ties to seafaring travelers and the ocean with a number of Nassau attractions and Freeport, Bahamas, activities.

Plenty To Do

The flat islands of the area provide the ideal setting for many of the activities available. In fact, there are so many things to do, the hard part is knowing where to begin. Start your vacation fun with a tour so you can get your bearings. Popular tours that will show you Freeport, Bahamas, activities include bicycle tours, glass-bottom boat tours, kayaking trips, sailboat tours, airplane tours, and jeep safaris. Take a sunset dinner cruise and enjoy tropical cocktails or go deep-sea fishing on a charter tour. You can even tour the islands by parasailing for a thrilling view from above.

Because of the stunning coral reef that surrounds the area, scuba diving and snorkeling are widely popular. With so much to see underwater, including the oldest underwater caves on Earth, you could spend your entire vacation underwater and still not see everything. Freeport, Bahamas, activities on land include gambling, beaches, resorts, live entertainment, and so much more.

Even More To Do In Nassau

For a fun celebration, attend Junkanoo. Similar to Mardi Gras, Junkanoo is full of music, food, art, and color with costumes and parades. Regattas featuring workboats held in conjunction with onshore festivals are another fun event. The Pirates of Nassau Museum and the Ardasta Gardens and Zoo are two other attractions to take in on your vacation.

If you love seafood, you'll love eating in this city of the commonwealth. After a delicious lunch, head out for some local shopping where you'll find unique fashions and handicrafts like hats, bags, and baskets made from palm fronds. If you enjoy sports, you'll also find plenty of golf and tennis, in addition to great spots for swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving.

Dolphin Encounters And More

If you love dolphins, you'll have the adventure of the lifetime on a local dolphin encounter. You'll see local spotted and bottlenose dolphins in person at one of the local sanctuaries or in the wild on a dolphin charter. If you're feeling even more adventurous, consider a sea lion, stingray, or even a shark encounter.

Regardless of which city you visit, you'll find there is plenty to do in the commonwealth where there is a little something for everyone.
